Methodology: How We Calculate Cost Per Hour
One hour of audio at a natural narration pace (155 words/minute) requires approximately 9,300 words or 55,000 characters of text. We use this as the baseline for all cost-per-hour calculations.
All prices reflect 2026 public pricing. Subscription costs include the monthly fee divided by the hours available on that plan.
ElevenLabs: $15–$25/hr
ElevenLabs is the quality benchmark — voices are the most natural available. But the pricing assumes you fully utilise your monthly quota, which most creators don't.
- Creator ($22/month): ~0.9 audio hrs → $24.44/hr
- Pro ($99/month): ~4.5 audio hrs → $22/hr
- Scale ($330/month): ~22 audio hrs → $15/hr
Unused credits reset monthly. If you use 60% of your quota, the effective cost per hour jumps 40%.
Murf.ai: $16–$30/hr
Murf targets professionals and teams with a polished interface and collaborative features. For solo YouTube creators, you're paying for features you don't need.
- Basic ($29/month): 24 hours/year = 2 hrs/month → $14.50/hr
- Pro ($59/month): 96 hours/year = 8 hrs/month → $7.38/hr
Murf hours are annual allocations billed monthly. Unused hours roll over within the year but reset annually.
Amazon Polly and Google TTS: $0.50–$20/hr
Both are API-only developer services with no YouTube-specific workflow. Voice quality — especially Polly Standard — is noticeably synthetic. Google WaveNet is better but requires GCP setup.
True cost includes setup time (2–4 hours), maintenance, and stitching code for long scripts. For a YouTube creator, the opportunity cost makes these options expensive despite low nominal pricing.
YTVoice.app: $1.98–$3.00/hr
YTVoice.app uses the ElevenLabs engine at a fraction of the subscription cost. One-time packages, no monthly commitment, credits never expire.
- Starter ($9): 3 hrs → $3.00/hr
- Creator ($19): 8 hrs → $2.38/hr
- Pro ($39): 18 hrs → $2.17/hr
- Business ($79): 40 hrs → $1.98/hr
At $1.98–$3.00/hr with ElevenLabs voice quality and 300K character limits, YTVoice.app is the most cost-effective option for YouTube creators in 2026.
