2026 Comparison

YTVoice.app vs Play.ht
The Better Alternative

Play.ht shut down in 2025 — here's what to use instead for YouTube voiceover.

The verdict

Play.ht (PlayAI) was acquired by Meta in July 2025 and discontinued by the end of the year — the site no longer resolves and existing accounts are gone. If you relied on Play.ht for YouTube voiceover, YTVoice.app is a pay-as-you-go alternative with the same premium ElevenLabs voices, no subscription, and credits that never expire.

Why creators choose YTVoice.app over Play.ht

Play.ht is gone — start fresh in minutes

Play.ht's service, dashboard, and API were shut down after Meta's 2025 acquisition of PlayAI. There's no migration path and no way to export old projects or voice clones. YTVoice.app lets you sign in with Google and start generating voiceovers right away — no waiting, no data to recover.

Same premium ElevenLabs voices

YTVoice.app runs on the ElevenLabs voice engine — the technology behind some of the most natural-sounding AI narration available. If Play.ht's voice library covered your needs, ElevenLabs voices cover the same ground with more consistent quality.

No subscription trap

Play.ht required a recurring monthly plan with credits that reset every billing cycle. YTVoice.app is pay-as-you-go: buy hours once, use them whenever, and keep your balance even if you take months off between uploads.

Built specifically for YouTube creators

YTVoice.app supports long-form scripts up to 300,000 characters per request, full commercial licensing for monetized videos, and crypto payments via OxaPay — practical details that matter for a faceless-channel workflow, not a general-purpose TTS API.
